Classroom News
This week we are excited to be collaborating with the specialists on our early release day to explore seasons and weather. We would love more parent volunteers to help make this day go smoothly for our students. If you can help please let me know.
Literacy
We are working hard on blending and segmenting sounds in words to read and spell. We are also working on memorizing sight words to help read more fluently. This week we will be working on using pictures to predict what will happen in a story and recalling details after we read. In writing, we are continuing to work on writing how-to books to teach others how to do something. I have added a link to some sight word games to my website that you can have your child play at home.
Math
This week we will be starting a unit on addition and subtraction. At the end of this unit students should be able to add and subtract numbers to 5 fluently. They should be able to read a simple math story problem and tell whether they need to add or subtract to solve the problem. They should also be able to tell which addend is missing in a number sentence. Those who can already add and subtract fluently within 5 will work with harder numbers. This Wednesday we will have fun celebrating the 100th day of school by building and exploring with the number 100. Please make sure your child brings in their 100th day project by Wednesday.
IB
We are excited to be starting our new IB unit on how the world works. We will be learning about weather, what causes changes in weather, and how weather impacts people and places around the world.
